Linguistically, the prayer means
invocation. If, in response, descends from Allah, the Almighty,
it is (mercy) and if it comes from the slaves of Allah, it is (a
demand for mercy) which has literally made "the prayer" a joint
word and thus it has got a dual meaning and more than one joint
word.
The meaning of the prayer
linguistically, is more familiar in usage than the dua
(invocation and mercy) that is to say: a comprehensive word as it
has got to bear a dual concept. It has come to mean: (demand of
affection, kindness, special care, also involving mercy,
demanding mercy, state of forgiveness, supplication, invocation
and dua".
The Prayer, has been transferred
by the legal legislator from the linguistic meaning into the
legal meaning.
The concept of the Prayer legally and
linguistically
The concept of the prayer
linguistically and legally has but one meaning but they differ in
respect of verification from one another. The concept of
the prayer in the speech of Jesus, in the holy Quran, son of Mary
(P.B.U.T.) who is spoken about by saying: "And he recommended me
to pray…." (Mariam:31) and the concept of the Prayer in
Pre-Islamic time had been: "Their Salat (prayer) at the House of
Allah, i.e. the Ka'ba at Makkah) was nothing but whistling and
clapping of hands. Therefore, taste the punishment because you
used to disbelieve".
(Al-Anfal:35) The Almighty also
asserted that when He said: "Verily, Allah and His Angels pray
for the Prophet. (P.B.U.H.) (Al-Ahzab: 56) and when the Almighty,
said: "And pray not on any of them when he dies at all."
(At-Taubah:84).
and many other quotes of the kind
of the words which denote the prayer with regard of the full and
entire concept of the Prayer which are as we mentioned them
before: compassion, special attention, but only differ in
verification.
Building on the foregoing, the
prayer which is one of the legally-specified aspects is one of
the verifications of this comprehensive concept as though the
legislator wanted for this concept to stand as a verified
worshipping act together with all of its stipulations.
